Ownership Has Its Price

by | Jan 21, 2006 | Poetically Correct

Hamsters, gerbils, rats and mice
Who can really set the price?
Iguanas, turtles, snakes or fish
What kind of child has this wish?
Kitties, puppies, cats and dogs
Why not content just watching frogs?
Chinchillas, rabbits, ferrets or pigs
Spiders living in some twigs
I wonder if God so designed
The being of possessive mind
Every creature was meant to roam
Not force-bred and taken home
Creation is there but to see
The living earth in harmony
I too thought I owned my pet
So I write this lest I forget
I am here as brief it’s known
From start to finish I have grown
And if I stop and contemplate
You might say I’m running late
How absurd this stagnant race
Thinking it owns time and space.
